Custom Wiring Diagrams for Commercial Door Hardware
Horizon creates project-specific point-to-point and riser diagrams for commercial electronic door hardware, access control, automatic operators, and integrated openings.
Wiring Diagrams for Complete Door Systems
Electronic door hardware often includes components from several manufacturers and systems. Individual product documentation may explain how each device operates, but it does not always show how the complete opening should be wired and function together.
Horizon reviews the hardware schedule and intended operation of the opening to create coordinated wiring diagrams that show how the system should be installed.
Our drawings can incorporate access control, electrified locking hardware, automatic operators, power supplies, sensors, relays, switches, fire alarm interfaces, and other related components.
Hardware From Any Manufacturer
We can create diagrams using hardware supplied by your distributor, the general contractor, the owner, another vendor, or multiple manufacturers on the same project.
Manufacturer wiring diagrams are typically limited to that manufacturer’s own components. Horizon can show how the complete opening works together, even when several brands and systems are involved.
What We Typically Need
- Hardware schedule
- Hardware function statement
- Relevant plans or specifications, when available
If a function statement is not available, Horizon can either develop the drawing around the most common operation or work with your team to define the desired function before the drawings are created.
How to Get Started
1. Send us your project information and documents
Fill out the informational form below and upload your hardware schedule, function statement, and available plans or specifications.
2. Horizon team reviews the project
We review the hardware and intended operation, identify the drawings required, and returns an estimate including scope of work, pricing, and timeline.
3. We create the drawings
Your project is developed into point-to-point and riser diagrams for the installation team.
Detailed, Real-World Hardware Drawings
Horizon has spent more than two decades building a library of custom hardware stencils for commercial door systems.
Rather than representing every device as a generic box or symbol, our diagrams illustrate components to resemble the actual hardware being installed.
This gives installers a clearer visual reference in the field and helps make the drawings easier to follow during installation, setup, and troubleshooting.
If a component is not already in our library, we can create the stencil specifically for the project.
Real Hardware Representation
Devices are drawn to resemble the actual products.
Terminal-Level Connections
Point-to-point drawings show which wires connect to which terminals.
Cable Requirements
Riser diagrams identify conductor requirements and cable destinations.
Device Notes and Settings
Relevant setup information can be included where needed.
Point-to-Point and Riser Diagrams
Point-to-Point Diagrams
Point-to-point diagrams show the actual electrical connections between components.
They identify which wires connect to which terminals and can include notes for device settings, relays, power requirements, or other project-specific details.
Riser Diagrams
Riser diagrams show the cable size, conductor count, and where each cable needs to be routed.
Their primary purpose is to make sure the correct cabling is installed in the correct locations before final device connections are made.
Why Both Matter
Riser diagrams help get the right cable in place, while point-to-point diagrams show how the equipment is connected once the cable is there.
For many projects, both are required to give the installer a complete picture of the opening.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to use one brand of hardware?
No. Horizon can create diagrams for hardware from any manufacturer and can combine multiple brands within the same opening.
Do I have to purchase the hardware from Horizon?
No. Our wiring diagram service is independent of hardware sales. With a hardware schedule and function statement, we can quote the required diagrams regardless of where the hardware was purchased.
How long does it take to receive wiring diagrams?
A single diagram can typically be completed within 24 hours. Some straightforward diagrams can be completed much faster. Larger projects vary depending on the number and complexity of the drawings, but delivery rarely exceeds one week.
Do you charge for a separate diagram for every hardware set?
No. If multiple hardware sets use the same components and require the same wiring, Horizon can combine them into one drawing and identify the applicable hardware sets and door numbers.
Do your diagrams use generic hardware symbols?
No. We use custom stencils that resemble the actual hardware being installed. Horizon has built an extensive library of hardware drawings over the last two decades. If a component has not been drawn before, we can create a new stencil for it.
What is a hardware function statement?
A hardware function statement describes how an electronically controlled opening is intended to operate. It typically addresses operation from the exterior and interior in both locked and unlocked conditions.
What is the difference between a point-to-point diagram and a riser diagram?
A riser diagram shows the cable requirements and where cables need to be routed. A point-to-point diagram shows the actual electrical connections between the components.
